What is the HairMax Ultima 12 LaserComb?

The Ultima 12 LaserComb by HairMax is a premier, handheld cold laser device. It is their top-tier comb with the most features.

This technology is FDA-cleared to treat hair loss for both men and women. It is engineered for speed, effectiveness, comfort and ease of use.

Through photobiostimulation, the Ultima 12 stimulates hair follicles at a cellular level to promote hair growth, reverse hair thinning, restore the natural growth cycle and helping to regrow denser, fuller hair.

The Ultima 12 delivers therapeutic light energy through 12 medical-grade lasers (No LEDs).

Why Ultima 12 (vs. all other Laser Combs)?

The Ultima 12 offers a unique comb design that incorporates patented hair parting teeth which part your hair during treatment to allow optimal laser light delivery to your follicles.

The 3 elements for efficacy – the hair parting teeth, laser light intensity and laser light density work in unison to provide a highly effective treatment for hair loss and thinning hair. Comfortable, portable and lightweight for home use or while traveling.

Low Level Laser therapy improves hair density and volume and improves the overall appearance of thinning hair. Over time, your healthier follicles produce and grow better, stronger, thicker, healthier hair.

The Ultima 12 has more laser diodes and therefore more area coverage than most other laser combs on the market, including the less expensive base model by HairMax which features 7 laser diodes.

For those willing to do more “work” – these base models are a great choice because they utilize the same exact technology in the more premium models of hair loss treatment laser devices.

Who Can Use HairMax Ultima 12?

Adult men and women with mild to moderate hair loss are both FDA cleared candidates for the Ultima 12, to regrow their hair and prevent future hair loss.

The best results will be for men and women in early or moderate stages of hair loss, where it has just started thinning or shedding.

The Ultima 12 is a great alternative for women experiencing overall thinning of hair after menopause.

My hair is totally gone, should I use the HairMax Ultima 12?

It depends on your situation, of course, but the best outcomes will be for those with mild to moderate hair loss or temporary hair loss. In the words of HairMax:

While the HairMax laser devices can ‘awaken’ dormant hair follicles, once the hair follicle is no longer functioning, it cannot be revitalized.

SIdebar: I wish more people knew they needed to be AGGRESSIVE at the first signs of hair loss. Once it’s gone gone, it’s REALLY gone gone. For those of us who have noticed thinning or have any suspicion that it will happen to us because of lovely genetics, it’s absolutely essential that we take action now.

You may be wondering: does HairMax LaserComb work? Onto that next…

thumbs up oxg fight falloutHairmax Ultima 12: Does it really work?

The science says yes.

Users experienced an average hair growth of 149 new hairs per square inch with results seen in 12 to 16 weeks. If you’d like to read more about HairMax, go to their website and putz around.

How does the HairMax Ultima 12 Laser Comb regrow hair?

HairMax laser devices utilize laser energy to stimulate the follicle to grow healthy new hair when you have androgenetic alopecia, also known as pattern baldness or thinning hair.

The HairMax laser devices work directly on the hair follicle, to provide the energy needed to support healthy hair growth, by helping to increase blood circulation to the follicle, to increase circulation and remove waste products.

Worth Noting: As is true with Rogaine and even most hair loss supplements, you will need to use the laser indefinitely. Good thing ye olde 12 comes with such a terrific warranty – 5 months window to return!

At this time, in spite of all of our incredible science and technology, the only permanent solution for hair loss is surgical. However, the process of hair loss surgery is a mixed bag for many reasons.

Speaking only for myself, I can always see when someone has hair plugs. I have also seen scalps where the procedure didn’t take and the patient is basically disfigured forever. Worth going down that google image wormhole, if you need to see what I’m talking about.

Free Gift – Sweet!

Because they know you’re coughing up an arm and a leg for their state of the art hair loss equipment, HairMax throws in their own hair loss shampoo, conditioner, and treatment, and supplements to use along side the Ultima LaserComb 12.

Treating your hair loss and protecting your hair is a long-term commitment.

You have a choice: do nothing and simply accept that it will continue to thin and fall out, or do something today to interfere with and arrest that outcome. Hair loss treatment routines, like diamonds, are forever.

If you choose to use a cold laser device, using it indefinitely is required. HOWEVER, this is also true of Minoxidil, supplements, and DHT blocking shampoo. Sadly, there is no “one and done” treatment – it all needs to be ongoing, and it is a commitment.

HairMax Ultima 12: Premier Laser Comb Option

If you are intrigued by cold laser therapy but need a lower price point, consider trying a base model laser comb (those start at $199).

If you are still mulling over the investment, here’s a challenge:

  1. Go through your statements and receipts and add up all the $ you’ve spent on shampoos, supplements, sprays, and other hair loss treatments over the last year.
  2. Is it higher than $400? My money says it is.
  3. Take that amount and times it by the amount of years remaining in your lifespan.
  4. NOW, compare that amount to the upfront one-time cost for a high-quality laser device. See which option makes more sense?

    Hi there!

I am sorry worried about gadgets like that because it somehow blows my mind that they actually work. Glad I gained some insight here, I consider getting one for my dad. It still has a decent amount but they are really thin. Is this helping here as well or is it just improving the amount of hairs?

Thanks for getting back to me 🙂

Yes, it improves the density of existing hair and promotes new growth. This laser stimulates hair at the level of the follicles to be healthy and more nourished which results in thicker, more abundant hair. Thanks for reading, and for the great question!

This sounds like an amazing product and the free gift. What a winner.

I also like that this therapy requires no chemical or surgical requirements.

    Thanks for sharing.

This looks like an interesting product, luckily I’m still trying to stop my hair from growing!

I will say that it’s quite expensive but if it works properly and effectively then I think it’d be 100% worth it!

You always provide the best reviews:) thankyou

This is a very interesting option for assisting with hair loss. Certainly, I would see this as being good for people with allergies who can’t use some of the shampoos and other products. Would you agree? The cost is a bit high, however given the cost of going to clinics it probably works out more cost effective over time.

Penelope on December 20, 2017 Reply

I would agree totally that the cost levels out over time, particularly for those of us already used to spending a small fortune on supplements, serums, and shampoos. This new wave of low level laser therapy is making huge waves in the hair loss product industry!

This sure looks to be interesting and the concept, as explained, also looks quite genuine. Yes, it is a bit expensive but like you said, if someone is spending on other treatments and still not getting results, it may be worth spending on this. What is it’s life, would you have any idea about this?
    Thank you

They have a 2 year full factory warranty and my guess is that these are built to last at least a decade, if not longer. I think it’s worth pursuing for anyone who wants to commit to a more science-based solution to hair loss.

I love this comb better than the first one you did a review on because it parts your hair, enabling deep penetration. I really want to buy this comb, but I’m not sure if it would work on my hair texture. Please advise?

Penelope on December 20, 2017 Reply

Hi Shalisha, thanks so much for the question. It’s a good one, and looking closely at the HairMax and Theradome sites, you’ll see these devices haven’t been thoroughly tested for all skin tones and hair textures. However, it turns out that people with darker complexions and hair loss actually benefit MORE from these devices because of the increased absorption of the heat and light by dark skin. Check it out!

Hi Penelope, Thank you very much for your hard working. Here you provide me with another hair-grow option. Looks that the HairMax fits me the best so far. My hair loss started this year. I have the potential to stop my hair loss and to initiate the growth of new hair! Everyone says that it is not possible to regrow the lost hair, but I have something to try and to improve that hair regrowth does occur.

I support you in trying to arrest and reverse your hair loss now, while it’s still relatively new and your follicles are still alive. Invest in a laser device and get on it!!

Yvonne on December 21, 2017 Reply

I’m not sure if I’m liking this device much as it has to be used indefinitely. But I guess if it helps reverse the signs of hair loss, it would be a great help for someone with hair loss. It’s good to know that this comb will also help to improve hair density.

Thanks for the honest reply! The brutal truth is that for most of us with hair loss, we will have to treat it like a chronic condition, and some form of DHT blocking shampoo, supplements, or other technology will be required on an ongoing basis. I agree, there are a lot of perks to this specific comb!

Hello Penelope, I am so amazed at the products available for hair loss. You did mention that if someone is photosensitive they might not be able to use this product. Do you have a suggestion for something that might work as well without this dilemma? This is such a great article. So much information . Great review. Thanks, ariel

Penelope on December 21, 2017 Reply

Hi Ariel thanks for the question! For folks with photosensitivity, basically the only thing OFF the table is the low level laser therapy. Everything else – the shampoos and supplements and topical treatments – is fair game. There are a lot of alternatives out there and a solution exists for everyone!.

This looks like a great product for hair loss. I would prefer this over chemicals and surgery for sure. The price would more than make up for all the money we spend on supplements and other things for hair growth. Great review!

Thanks for reading, Tammy! I agree completely, it’s better to spend money on the right product at once than a lot of smaller expenses for the “wrong” products 🙂

Wow, my brother is going bald and was just asking me about some kind of product to regrow hair. I told him I know it’s very expensive to have treatment which helps regrow your hair.

However, I am kind of concerned, too. I have heard that balding is on your mother’s side. Is this myth or is it actually true?

    • 26
Penelope on December 22, 2017 Reply

Well, it’s both true and false. The primary gene does travel through the mother’s side, but other genes can also travel through the father’s side. It can also skip generations. Kinda annoying, right? Lasercombs are expensive up front but inexpensive over time when compared to the supplements and serums and shampoos we have all dumped money into.

I am always interested in the newest gadgets and supplements for hair growth, but I don’t know if it works on African American hair. Do you know, or is there a way that I can find out?

    • 28
Penelope on December 23, 2017 Reply

Thanks for the question! Yes, low level laser therapy does work on african american hair. There’s a great article over at Theradome explaining the science behind it, and how this treatment is even more effective for those with darker skin, because darker skin absorbs light more readily.

What a great review. Hopefully, I will never need this myself (my hair grows super fast and needs thinning each time I get a haircut). But thinking on behalf of a family member undergoing chemo, will this help do you think? And if so, should she wait till she is done with the chemo?

It is pretty amazing how today we have this kind of products available to buy at such a low cost. If you compare it with going to get treatments with a doctor, using the comb is definitely less expensive. One question I have: is there a technique to get better results with the comb or do you just comb your hair as usual?

    • 33
Penelope on December 24, 2017 Reply

It’s a comb and hold, comb and hold application process. The comb teeth just keep the lasers at a distance, and from having direct contact with the hair and scalp itself. In all honesty, the laser helmets and laser bands are easier, but the combs do the same thing, and just require a bit more user participation 🙂

Cold laser devices are turning up everywhere so reading this was very interesting. It is amazing how a laser can correct ailments and in the case stimulate your hair follicles. I think this is a great less invasive way to regrow your hair. It is so easy to use, I really like that and the free gift is just an added bonus. The price is great for what you are getting. Thanks for this review!

Penelope on December 30, 2017 Reply

I agree – this IS a less invasive choice. Hair plugs are the ultimate invasive choice, but even things like Rogaine can be invasive on our sleep routines and evening habits. Laser therapy is clean and effective, and NOW is the time to buy, because of HairMax’s sale and the free gift, of course. Thanks for reading!
