What on Earth Is a Laser Comb?
Today we’re reviewing the least expensive option on the market that utilizes the same groundbreaking hair loss technology: cold laser therapy or low level laser therapy.
What on Earth is Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) for Hair Loss?
LLLT, or cold laser therapy, is the latest and greatest use of technology for good of the follicles of all humankind.
LLLT is also referred to as red light therapy, soft laser, laser stimulation, photo laser modulation and cold laser therapy.
Multiple studies show that LLLT is an effective way for both men and women to treat and reverse hair loss and hair thinning.
It works for hair loss due to genetics, stress, medication, overuse of styling products and environmental factors. Notably, this technology is also effective for hair loss due to androgenetic alopecia and alopecia areata.
In 2007, the Food and Drug Administration first approved LLLT for hair loss, and hair has been going from flimsy to hirsute with its help ever since.
How EXACTLY Does Cold Laser Therapy Reverse Hair Loss?
Anyone who is reading this blog probably already knows that the hair growth cycle has three stages:
1. The growth phase which is also referred to as the anagen phase
2. Resting phase or the telogen phase – when we want these follicles to wake the hell up!
3. The shedding phase or catagen phase – and the bane of our existence!
Cold Laser devices boost the flow of blood in your scalp as well as stimulate cellular metabolism in the telogen as well as the catagen phases.
This leads to the growth of a healthier, stronger and new (anagen) hair.
Why Buy This Specific Low Laser Therapy Comb and not one from Hairmax?
In short: the price. Most of the competing devices are extraordinarily expensive. The hair loss helmets run from several hundred to several thousand dollars.
Next, the quality. The Hair Restoration Laboratories Laser Comb utilizes 16 real, independent laser diodes. These lasers are NOT LED lights.
These are Mitsubishi lasers with a Laser pulsing wavelength of 650nm, and each diode has a 50mw energy output. Same technology, smaller package.
The 16 independent lasers are hard at work striving to improve your hair quality, reverse hair thinning, and feeding new life into struggling or dormant follicles.
How to Use the Hair Restoration Laboratories Laser Comb:
The Hair Restoration Laboratories Laser Comb is easy to use. It can be used anywhere, any time. The recommended use is for a total of 20-25 minutes, 3-4 times a week.
It does not require application of any lotions or solutions that can interfere with the style of your hair. You can use it when your hair is wet or dry.
It can be used in connection with other hair loss treatments. However, studies also establish that LLLT can be extremely effective on its own.
- Plug it into an AC outlet, and press the green start button.
- The laser comb has built in phases that last for four seconds.
- What this means is that every four seconds, hold the comb in place, and then after four seconds when it clicks off, move the comb one centimeter in the area where you are experiencing hair loss and wait four more seconds.
- Proceed like this over the entire concern area of your scalp. This built-in automatic phase makes it very easy to laser comb your entire concern areas evenly.
- Press the red stop button. Unplug and go about the rest of your day!
What this Laser Comb CAN, and CAN’T, do:
LLLT is an extremely effective tool to stimulate and rejuvenate weak or dormant follicles that produce wispy, frail hair. However, it cannot bring dead follicles back from the dead.
No hair loss therapy can bring back dead follicles, unfortunately. Not even Rogaine. Not even Propecia.
This is why it’s CRUCIAL for men and women, no matter how young we are, to tackle hair loss at the first signs of shedding and thinning and breakage, rather than wait until the follicles are dead for good.
Cold Laser Therapy Side Effects
Cold laser therapy is NOT appropriate for people who have any photosensitivity, whether it’s genetic or a result of a medication they are taking. It is also NOT indicated for people with heads full of dead follicles, unfortunately.
Everyone using the laser comb must show extreme caution, because lasers can damage our eyes. Never look directly into the laser or even into the mirror’s reflection of the laser, and never point the laser into anyone else’s eyes!
Notably absent from this list of potential side effects are sensitivities to herbs, chemicals, and medications. The beautiful thing about cold laser therapy is that you don’t have to worry about any of that stuff.
You also don’t have to worry about stinking up the house (or your pillows) with all the lotions and potions!
My Experience with the Low Level Laser Therapy Hair Loss 16 Diode Laser Comb
I’ve been using this specific laser comb now for two weeks.
Ever since I’ve been using hair loss products and reviewing cutting edge technologies, I’ve been curious about cold laser therapy, but unwilling to pony up the money for the more expensive equipment.
This laser, ringing in at under $150, was perfect compromise for me – a chance to try this therapy without breaking the bank.
I find it extremely easy and straightforward to use, and have not yet experienced any scalp irritation or blindness!
My hair has also continued to flourish in its regrowth, but in all fairness I am using a number of different therapies in combination, including Nutrafol, Rosemary Oil massage at night, and caffeine shampoo.
I will update this review after a few months, so you can see even more progress on my ol’ hairy noggin!
Overall: Hands Down Best Budget Choice for Hair Loss Laser Combs
I recommend this laser comb for anyone curious about cold laser therapy technology, but not quite intrigued enough to spend thousands on a fancy hair loss laser helmet.
Sure, the laser comb requires a bit more work to use than any helmet, because you have to hold onto it while you’re using it, and move it across various areas of your scalp in order to cover the full desired treatment area. (I don’t know about you … but I can handle that.)
LLLT is the best hair loss treatment choice for those suffering from alopecia areata or alopecia universalis. This type of hair loss does not result from excessive DHT, so all of the DHT-blocking hair loss products are not appropriate treatments for this condition.
The laser comb would make a GREAT gift for the special man or woman in your life…this is an example of the perfect kind of thing people who suffer from hair loss always want to try out, but don’t always want to buy for themselves.
Maybe they’re embarrassed, maybe they’re just being tight with money…
Case in point: I would have been ECSTATIC to receive this as a gift.
It’s easy to justify spending $149 on a nice meal out, or at the salon, or on a massage…
But take a minute to consider just how far the $149 can go to treating and reversing your hair loss.
If it works for you and your follicles, as it has for 93% of people in clinical trials for cold laser therapy, it might just end up being the best $149 you ever spent!
Any question, thoughts, or experiences with cold laser therapy? Or anything else? As always I love hearing your feedback and all comments are welcome.
