Anti-Hair Loss Natural Therapy Premium Organic Sulfate-Free Caffeine Shampoo Review

Bottles containing shampoo and other hair care products on a white background

Hair loss in women is a problem that’s not often talked about, but a common problem nonetheless. In fact, it effects more than 55% of women at some point in their lifetime!

The causes of hair loss in women range from different hormonal changes and endocrine conditions, scalp trauma, lifestyle shifts, stress, side effects of medication, and inflammatory conditions.

Hormonal changes specifically often stem from menopause, pregnancy or commonly added stress. Depending on the cause, hair loss in women can be temporary or permanent.

The goal of this blog is to help women who are experiencing hair loss intervene with effective treatments, and make that hair loss a thing of the past.

Types of Hair Loss Women Experience

  • Androgenetic Alopecia
  • Telogen Effluvium
  • Anagen Effluvium
  • Alopecia Areata

For those looking to combat hair loss, here is another tool for the arsenal: Botanical Green Anti-Hair Loss Natural Therapy Premium Organic Sulfate-Free Caffeine Shampoo.

In this review I will discuss the good qualities of the ingredients formulated to make this shampoo, and I will also showcase the personal experiences of women who have used this shampoo to eliminate their hair loss.

Overall Look at Botanical Green’s Hair Loss Shampoo

My goal is to share with you a hair loss shampoo that works. This all-natural shampoo was designed to work to keep your hair in a state of continued growth by encouraging more blood flow to your scalp.

As a result, using this shampoo can minimize hair loss and shedding all while promoting healthy hair growth. The active ingredients in this sulfate-free shampoo are combined with a formula of DHT-blockers and nutrients that inspire hair growth by reactivating dormant hair follicles.

Results from clinical studies display this shampoo in a positive light. It has been proven that this shampoo actively works to eliminate the early stages of hair loss.

While encouraging new hair growth, this shampoo does a wonderful job adding moisture and nourishing elements to your hair and scalp. This combined flow leaves your hair with a natural healthy shine.

Proven Clinical Results

According to Botanical Green Care:

  • In 85 percent of people, hair loss was stopped, and new hair began to appear in areas of hair loss.
  • In 98 percent of people the hair grew denser after the dormant hair follicles were reactivated.
  • The hair of 97 percent of those who tried the shampoo was stronger, healthier and shinier than it was initially.

As these results come from the manufacturer themselves, it’s important to take them with a grain of salt.

This formula is blended with these components for the most effective results:

  • Broad-spectrum Advanced DHT Blockers
  • All-natural extracts
  • Essential nutrients
  • Omega-3 oils
  • Fatty acids
  • Vitamins and proteins

Botanical Green Care Shampoo Reviews from Customers

This hair loss product has an almost five-star rating across online platforms including Amazon.com. Customers rave about finally finding a hair loss shampoo that works.  On Amazon.com specifically, this shampoo has a 4.5 out of 5 star rating in over 280 reviews at the time of this post.

In reading reviews, I see that various users of Botanical Green Care Shampoo have undergone lifestyle changes to combat their hair loss complications.

On their journey to a healthier life, one customer in particular was encouraged by her doctor to try this all-natural hair loss shampoo.  After trying this product for 6 months, she declares to have experienced some exciting changes to her hair for the better.

Her hair loss has completely been eliminated all while giving her hair added health and shine. She explains that she loves the use of all-natural ingredients to construct this healing shampoo.

Another verified customer used the hair loss shampoo for 3 months before adding to the plethora of Botanical Green Care Shampoo reviews. After 3 months of use, her life as a victim to hair loss was ended. She proclaims to have tried product after product to rid her of unwanted hair loss and in the past, nothing else had ever worked.

Due to having tried so many products, this user was very skeptical as to if this new find would give her any relief. As the days and months passed she was pleasantly surprised to have discovered a shampoo that really eliminates hair loss after continued use.

Finding the right hair product to suit your needs can be a long, expensive, stressful process. Not everything works for everyone. That’s the blunt truth.

Our next review comes from someone who went through that very process and discovered a bright light at the end of the tunnel. Continuously failed products were being thrown in the trash while searching to find a hair loss antidote to relieve her of her damaged hair.

After spending hundreds of dollars on products, she would have never dreamed that she would be a victim of another failed 5-star product that would further act to remove the hair from her head. Yet there she was with a product that did the complete opposite of what it claimed to work for.

I’m sure you can imagine how discouraging and discomforting this experience was for her. No longer did she trust products listed with five-star reviews. Though redeeming her hair back to its natural flourishing state seemed to be miles and miles from her reach, she took a chance on the Botanical Green hair loss shampoo.

For the first two weeks she tells us that she did not notice any big changes. One good thing that she did take note of was that the product wasn’t causing her to lose more hair as did the one product she had tried in the past. She explains that while using this shampoo it was gentle, soft and natural to touch. After two more weeks of using this product the amount of hair lost was minimized with each new application.

She was beyond excited with the outcome of using this product and opted to purchase all versions of this shampoo to enhance her results even further. After two and a half months of using this shampoo she feels that she has solved her hair loss problem. Her search for a hair loss shampoo that works has ended and she will continue to use this product line in hopes of fully restoring her hair back to complete health.

Verdict- Does It Really Work?

Hair loss in women has reached new heights, particularly with our expanding stressors, expanding medical vulnerabilties, and further and further polluted environment. and there are people worldwide dedicated to eliminating this unpleasant experience.

With years and years of training and crafting different formulas to eradicate hair loss on a broad spectrum, there seems to finally be a solution. I believe the personal reviews speak for themselves and I would like to encourage you to take a deeper look into this product to see what it has to offer you.

Take a look at the other personal online reviews of this all-natural shampoo. Though all products don’t work for everyone, the good reviews of this product out weigh the bad by a landslide. Plus, their sister product, the Cayenne Treatment serum, is another huge winner also according to user reviews. Use them in combination!

What does all that mean?

coconut oil for hairThe natural hair growth shampoo contains a number of coconut derived stabilizers and moisturizers. it also contains a ton of DHT blockers – Saw Palmetto, Caffeine, Castor oil, and a number of other plants known for their healing and nutritional qualities.

One new thing that jumps out to me is the presence of Caviar extract. I haven’t seen that in a shampoo or conditioner before.  The internet tells me that caviar extract is good for hair because it contains UV protecting qualities, and helps provide moisture and texture support for hair. Cool!

As for the conditioner, a lot of the same stuff shows up, btu there’s also slipper elm bark extract. Slipper elm works as a detangler and helps improve the hairs tensile texture. It also has a number of benefits for skin health.

What do they say?

The folks over at Nourish Beaute have this to say about their creation. Sounds to me they think they made a pretty schnazzy product 🙂

Hair Loss Restoration Laboratories DHT Blocking Conditioner: Review

A rear view of a woman shampooing her hair in the shower

Our good friends over at Hair Loss Restoration Laboratories have just logged a year into research and development for this conditioner.

As you may know, I am a huge fan of their shampoo, so seeing this conditioner is extra exciting. The OCD nerd in me just loves to see a matching set.

Why use a DHT Blocking Conditioner?

This is one more opportunity in your daily routine to douse your follicles with powerful ingredients that block that pesky hormone DHT.

DHT, as you may know, is a testosterone byproduct that is the main cause of hair loss for both men and women.

The Hair Restoration Laboratories’ DHT Blocking Hair Loss Conditioner is specially formulated to work in connection with the DHT Blocking Hair Loss Shampoo.

When used together, this is a powerful shampoo/conditioner combination available to help prevent, halt and reverse hair loss in both men and women.

What’s in this one?

The DHT Blocking Hair Loss Conditioner dramatically helps prevent and reverse hair loss with more clinically-proven DHT blocking ingredients than any other conditioner.

It includes powerful DHT blockers, such as caffeine, saw palmetto, black cumin seed oil, cayenne fruit extract, rosemary leaf oil, pumpkin seed oil, green tea leaf extract and many more.

Clinical studies establish that the ingredients in the DHT Blocking Hair Loss Conditioner effectively block and remove DHT from your scalp (the hormone that causes male and female-pattern hair loss).

The DHT Blocking Hair Loss Conditioner also contains a proprietary blend of extracts, amino acids, oils, antioxidants and nutrients that will deeply condition your hair, nourish hair follicles and encourage healthy hair growth, including safflower seed oil, argan kernel oil, jojoba oil and sweet almond oil.

Additionally, the DHT Blocking Hair Loss Conditioner is loaded with ingredients to significantly improve the strength and thickness of your hair, including hydrolyzed wheat protein, hydrolyzed wheat starch, silk amino acids, panthenol, tyrosine and cystine.

OK, OK, that’s a nice list… but how do these ingredients help with hair loss?

I hear you…you want details. Luckily, I have details. Eat your heart out!

Salvia Miltiorrhiza Root Extract

Studies establish that this extract improves blood circulation to the hair follicle.

Ligusticum Chuanxiong Root Extract

Studies establish that this extract has beneficial properties, which may contribute to reduced hair loss and shinier, more manageable.

Astragalus Membranaceus Root Extract

Known for its adaptogen properties, this extract is rich is polysaccharides, which are nutrients critical to hair follicle health.

Camellia Japonica Seed Oil

In studies, this extract has demonstrated potent antioxidant properties with the ability to inhibit the production of DHT.

Argania Spinosa Kernel Argan oil

A natural oil that is rich in vitamin E and essential fatty acids. This ingredient provides extensive conditioning and helps combat hair dryness and damage, in addition to diminishing frizz.

Biotin (Vitamin H)

An essential B-vitamin that promotes hair growth and aids in overall hair health. This ingredient strengthens both the hair follicle and the hair shaft, from which the hair grows.

Soy Isoflavones

Studies establish that soy isoflavones promote hair growth by increasing the dermal levels of insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1).

Tocopherol

Also known as Vitamin E, this ingredient is an antioxidant and an intensive hair conditioning vitamin. This ingredient also softens the hair, provides essential healthy-hair nutrients, and soothes and protects the scalp.

Nicotinic Acid/Niacin

Niacin and hair growth go hand-in-hand because this B vitamin boosts energy and improves blood flow to the scalp. A healthy scalp is crucial for healthy hair growth.

Nigella Sativa Oil

Studies established that sativa oil increases hair growth and is effective in treating telogen effluvium, a specific hair loss condition and pattern primarily experienced by women.

Hibiscus Rosa-sinensis Extract

Studies of this leaf extract have established that it promotes more hair follicles in the anagen (growth) phase.

β-sitosterol

There are several reasons that may explain why phytosterols can be helpful in the treatment of hair loss. One of their main characteristics is their anti-inflammatory properties. Inflammation is often one of the characteristics that can contribute to hair loss and several studies have established that phytosterols have great anti-inflammatory purposes.

Citrus Medica Limonum Oil

A fragrant natural oil that is rich in Vitamin C.  It is a powerful antioxidant that helps protect the scalp and hair from free radical damage.

Polygonum Multiflorum Root Extract

Studies have established that this extract is a highly effective anti-androgen by decreasing the presence of DHT and obstructing 5-alpha-reductase enzymes.

Rosemary sprigs next to a bottle of rosemary oil

Rosemarinus Officinalis Leaf Oil

Studies have established that rosemary oil can be just as effective as minoxidil and stimulates hair growth.

Cedrus Atlantica Bark oil

Subjects in a control group study massaged with this oil showed an almost 50% improvement in hair loss.

Phyllanthus Emblica

Studies establish that this herb is a potent 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor and hair growth promoter.

Caffeine

Multiple studies confirm that caffeine is a powerful DHT blocker. In a study published in the International Journal of Dermatology, researchers saw in vitro growth inhibition of human hair follicles exposed to testosterone. In the same study, the deleterious effects from testosterone were counteracted by low concentrations of caffeine under the same conditions.

Additionally, and most importantly, caffeine stimulated growth in the cultured hairs in the same study and under the same conditions.

Pygeum Africanum Bark Extract

Pygeum africanum is an evergreen tree from Africa. The extract is rich in derivatives of natural fatty acids and is used in herbal medications to relieve urinary symptoms caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Excessive DHT happens to be the main cause of BPH (or prostate enlargement) and is also considered the main culprit in causing male as well as female pattern baldness.

Pumpkin Seed Oil

Pumpkin seed oil has been shown to block the action of 5-alpha reductase. The enzyme 5-alpha reductase is the main antagonist in Androgenetic Alopecia.

Cayenne Fruit Extract

Ground cayenne pepper in a bowl with whole cayenne peppers behind it

The most important component in cayenne fruit extract is capsaicin.  It stimulates the skin cells which increases the overall metabolic process of the skin on a cellular level.

Due to intensive metabolism, blood rushes to the skin of the scalp and the hair follicles receive sufficient nutrition and oxygen content from the blood flow which greatly promotes hair growth. Also, capsaicin stimulates the dead skin cells of the scalp which leads to new hair follicle production.

How should I use DHT Blocking Conditioner?

Following use of a DHT blocking shampoo (it can be any shampoo, but you really should use a DHT blocking first round)… apply a generous amount of the Conditioner to your hair and scalp.

Leave the Conditioner on your hair and scalp for a period of 3 to 5 minutes to allow maximum absorption of the hair loss-fighting ingredients. Then, completely rinse the Conditioner from your scalp and hair using cool to warm water.

How long will it take to work?

Results should be apparent within 3 to 5 months of daily use.

That may sound like a long time…but the cold hard reality is that this hair loss treatment journey takes a long time. And if your in this boat for the same reason I am – I take a medicine daily that causes hair loss as a side effect – you will have to do this stuff indefinitely. Forever. Permanently. Those are just the sad facts.

At least these days, we understand some of the science of hair loss and there are many good products out there to help treat it. 100 years ago, our sisters didn’t have these choices.

Overall: Get Some!

One reason I like the Hair Loss Restoration Laboratories products is because they’re such a great value. The bottles are a full 16 ounces, and their base model  DTH blocking shampoo clocks in at under $15.

Of course, I upgraded to the professional strength version, because I need the heavy hitters…but the point is that this stuff is good for those of us on a strict budget.

I’m excited to see hair loss treatment people turn their focus on conditioners and conditioning treatments.  It makes sense – almost all of us use conditioner, so why not take that opportunity to saturate our follicles with more of these healing ingredients?

Any questions or comments about this or anything else under the sun? As always, I look forward to your feedback and continuing the conversation.

DHT Blocking Hair Loss Shampoo – Professional Strength Review

A woman applying shampoo in the shower

DHT Blocking Hair Loss Shampoo, by Hair Restoration Laboratories, is exactly what it sounds like. It’s completely loaded with herbal DHT blockers.

This latest release includes a few additional DHT blocking ingredients and 25% more active ingredients than their regular strength version, which I’ve also previously used and reviewed here.

According to their website, Hair Restoration Laboratories has been a successful hair loss treatment company for over 10 years. This shampoo is based on latest science on how to defeat about that pesky testosterone byproduct, DHT.

DHT is main culprit behind hair loss for both men and women. This latest formulation is more intense and aggressive for those wishing to quickly arrest their hair loss due to excessive DHT (ie: MOST of us!)

As a major bonus, this DHT blocking shampoo is also SULFATE-FREE and PARABEN-FREE.

DHT Blockers & Hair Loss

The excessive presence of DHT, or Dihydrotestosterone if you prefer the big word version, is one of the main causes of hair loss for men and women.

If DHT had its way, we’d all have bald scalps and hairy bodies. Yup, you read that right: the same hormone makes our bodies hairier and our heads balder.

DHT attaches on androgen receptors on hair follicles, and then triggers the receptors to begin miniaturizing those follicles. Miniaturized follicles = thin, weak, and going going gone hair.

DHT on hair folliclesA 1998 study showed that both plucked follicles and skin from a balding scalp contain higher levels of androgen receptors than those from a non-balding scalp.

Some people simply have a genetic susceptibility to otherwise normal levels of circulating androgens, particularly DHT. A combination of hormonal and genetic factors could explain why some people are more likely than others to lose hair.

Do DHT Blocking Shampoos Work?

Yes. Keep reading to see why.

This professional strength shampoo contains MANY DHT blockers, including:

  • Salvia Miltiorrhiza Root Extract
  • Studies establish that this extract improves blood circulation to the hair follicle.
  • Ligusticum Chuanxiong Root Extract
Studies establish that this extract has a beneficial effect on hair, reduces hair loss and helps makes hair silky, glossy and manageable.
  • Astragalus Membranaceus Root Extract
Known for its adaptogen properties, this extract is rich is polysaccharides, which are nutrients critical to hair follicle health.

*New Ingredients Included In The Professional Strength Version:*

  • Cayenne fruit extract

According to my friends over at Nutrafol, which also employs this ingredient: “The most important element in cayenne peppers is Capsaicin which produces a tingling sensation on the skin. It stimulates the skin cells which increases the overall metabolic process of the skin on a cellular level. Due to intensive metabolism, blood rushes to the skin of the scalp and the hair follicles receive sufficient nutrition and oxygen content from the blood flow which greatly promotes hair growth. Also, Capsaicin stimulates the dead skin cells of the scalp which leads to new hair follicle production.”

  • Pumpkin seed oil

Pumpkin seed oil has been shown to block the action of 5-alpha reductase. The enzyme 5-alpha reductase is the main antagonist in androgenetic alopecia.

  • Caffeine

A 2015 German study showed that caffeine stimulates hair growth in hair follicles in petri dishes. Therefore, caffeine is a powerful DHT blocker that shows up in basically all new hair loss shampoos.

What Customers Say:

Users are happy with the value they get from the 16 oz bottle, especially after a first purchase ringing in under $30.

After a month or two of use, women have observed an improvement in growth around the hairline, and a general thickening of the individual hairs.  Few reported irritation or other allergy-related issues.

My Experience Using Professional Strength DHT Blocking Shampoo:

Like the regular strength version, this Professional Strength version has a “gender-neutral” smell – it definitely is ok for both men and women to use.

A lot of supposedly unisex shampoos say they’re gender neutral, but then they smell excessively floral, or, worse, in the same neighborhood as Axe Body Spray…which no woman wants to smell like! This is really none of the above.

It KINDA reminds me of the smell of the shampoo, Prell, if anyone here is old enough to remember it!

Usability:

DHT Blocking Hair Loss Professional Strength Shampoo comes up with a good lather and thickness (some hair loss shampoos are obscenely thick- too thick to be workable).

it doesn’t burn or tingle when leaving it on my scalp for the recommended 3-5 minutes.

I always appreciate a pump bottle design – in the shower the last thing I want to do is more work – lifting a bottle, squeezing sh*t out, putting the bottle back again. The pump design appeals to the worse angels of my nature 🙂

And, perhaps most importantly, through my hair loss treatment journey and use of DHT blockers, I’ve come to accept that DHT is the big nasty culprit behind most hair loss, including behind mine.

I’m convinced everyone struggling with hair loss needs to use a good DHT blocking product, whether it’s shampoo or serum.

labelsWhy use the professional strength version of this shampoo?

Many of us are familiar with DHT blocking ingredients and have no known reactions or allergies to them. For us, I say it’s best to jump right in with the more intense formulation. I have moved on to the professional strength version of this shampoo with no reactions or issues.

For anyone hesitant about any of these ingredients, or even just for those with an unusually sensitive scalp, I’d say it’s smarter and gentler to start with the base model of this shampoo and see if you can tolerate it.

You can always upgrade to the professional strength for your second bottle.

Overall: STILL a Great Budget Option for DHT Blocking Shampoo

Some of these hair loss shampoos, particularly professional strength options, run over fifty bucks for a much smaller bottle, and that can be SOOOO off-putting for people on a budget that they don’t pursue any treatment at all….which is a bad idea!

piggy bankMost shampoo bottles run in the 8-10 ounce range, not 16 full ounces. Here, you get a huge bottle for the price.

Depending on the length of your hair, this bottle of shampoo will last two to four months, giving you even more value.

Speaking for myself, using it exclusively on my very long hair, it lasted almost two months.

IDEALLY: you should combine this topical treatment with a supplement-based treatment for best results and most aggressive strategy.

For example, if you already are taking a powerful hair-loss supplement, this can be the budget-friendly but potent hair loss shampoo treatment you use to cover your bases.

Comprehensively address the root causes of your thinning hair both on the inside and the outside.  You’ve got limited time before those follicles die for good!

Any experience with this shampoo or any other specific DHT Blocking shampoos? I’d love to hear about your experiences, if so, so please do leave a comment below and I’ll get back to you ASAP!

Ultrax Labs Hair Solaye Review

A woman holding conditioner in her hand

You may have read my other Ultrax Labs Review for the very popular Hair Surge Shampoo.  This is the partner product, intended to be used alongside Hair Surge for maxium results.

Ultrax Hair Solaye is a conditioner containing powerful DHT blockers. It’s intended to be a unisex product, perfectly acceptable to use for both men and women. If you haven’t tried using the same shampoo as your boo, it’s pretty awesome. And de-clutters the shower!

What makes it so special?

Solaye contains moisturizers and DHT blockers that leave a lasting impression in your hair.  It contains many of the same ingredients from Hair Surge, and has a “reinforcing” effect when paired with that shampoo.

The specific ingredients in Solaye include: caffeine, jojoba oil, and Chamomile extract. It also includes lavender, rosemary, eucalyptus, and peppermint extracts. What do each of these do?

coffee hair loss caffeine shampooCaffeine:

Caffeine as a hair loss treatment is essentially a miracle.

A revolutionary 2015 study showed that caffeine could encourage hair cells to produce more hair.

The scientists placed follicles from hundreds of different human scalps in petri dishes. Some of the petri dishes were treated with caffeine, some where untreated. The experiment showed that the hair follicles that were spiked with caffeine grew much faster than the untreated cells.

Because of this landmark study, many shampoos, conditioners, and sprays formulated to treat hair loss now include caffeine as a primary ingredient.

Jojoba:

Jojoba moisturizes your scalp, stimulating hair growth. Jojoba oil acleanses the scalp of excess sebum build-up, which is scalp oil that’s often too high when there are excess androgens. Jojoba also stimulates circulation on your scalp, bringing new blood to hair follicles and thereby stimulating growth.

lavender hair lossLavender:

Dermatologists in Scotland showed that 44 percent of alopecia patients who were tested experienced new hair growth when they massaged their scalp daily with lavender and other essential oils for seven months.

The essential oil blend included lavender, thyme, rosemary, cedarwood, and the carrier oils were jojoba and grapeseed. Carrier oil dilutes essential oils and helps deliver the healing properties of these strong oils without irritation.

Rosemary:

The main benefit from Rosemary for hair loss is in its positive effect on circulation. Technically speaking, it boosts microcapillary perfusion, which in plain language is improved blood flow in the scalp.

As we have learned previously in Penelope’s school of hair loss, stressed scalps have poor blood flow and stressed follicles, which leads to weak and shedding hair.

Improved bloodflow means healthier, stronger follicles that bring nutrition from cells and waste away from cells.

This means more nourished, strong hair and newly-strengthened follicles that are capable of growing new hair.

Eucalyptus:

When mixed with a carrier oil like jojoba and applied to the scalp, eucalyptus gives a tingling sensation which stimulates the hair follicles, and improves blood circulation in the scalp. This brings nutrient-rich blood to every cell and hair follicle, which can then do a better job growing hair!

Peppermint:

A study from Toxicological Research showed that peppermint oil solution can promote hair growth. The peppermint oil used performed better than minoxidil, which is a hair growth product approved by United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), commonly found in Rogaine.

Menthol, the main component in peppermint oil, has been shown to increase blood flow to the area where it is applied. Increased bloodflow means increased follicle health and improved hair production.

Chamomile:

With anti-inflammatory, anti-irritant, and anti-microbial properties, chamomile encourages healthier hair regrowth. Chamomile also has a calming and soothing effect, which reduces stress, another indirect cause of hair loss.

Chamomile conditions the scalp as well as nourishes and strengthens the hair follicles, stimulating the growth of fuller, thicker, healthier hair strands.

Reviews of Ultrax Labs Hair Solaye:

At the time of this post, this conditioner has an average star rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars from nearly 1,500 reviews on Amazon.com. The below summary are straight from these reviews.

The Good:

  • Makes hair more lustrous and bouncy
  • New hairs appeared just after a few weeks
  • Small quantity goes a long way
  • Invigorating smell
  • Increased strength and fullness
  • Increased shine
  • Good for style damaged hair
  • Eliminates Dandruff
  • Does not leave hair greasy or coated
  • Makes coarse hair more workable

The Bad:

  • Small quantity for the price
  • Allergic reactions possible
  • Increased fallout initially (this is common for all hair loss treatments)
  • Weighed down some hair
  • Challenge to comb hair after use

female hair loss sadAs you can see, there’s some contradictory information in these reviews. Sadly, this is the state of things in the world of hair loss products.

Some stuff works wonders for some people and causes reactions or irritation in others. And some stuff does work well for everyone, but is financially out of reach.

In the case of this conditioner, at least there’s a 30 day money back guarantee, so you’ll know right away if you’re having a reaction and can return it.

I found all of the specific comments about healthy and luster in hair to be encouraging.

I feel that the positive reviews so vastly outweigh the negatives that this is a product worth trying and using regularly for hair loss.

Overall: a Worthy Pairing with Ultrax Hair Surge

If you’ve already a fan of Hair Surge, you need to give this a shot for the full-on synergistic effect of using both at the same time. If you’re curious, I highly recommend that you try this and Surge.

It’s true, they’re both pricier than the grocery store options by a lot. However, well-forumlated shampoos with clinical strength ingredients like these come at a higher price.(If you need much a lower-priced caffeine shampoo and conditioner, I recommend giving OGX Fight Fallout with caffeine and niacin a shot).

And any of us dealing with hair loss are already accustomed to spending an arm and a leg on stuff like this.

Our hair deserves whatever we can do for it while we still have the chance to regrow from weakened follicles, and protect the hair we already have.

Any experiences with Solaye, or any other ultrax labs hair products? I’d love to hear about your experiences, good or bad, and so would all the readers here. Thanks for your comments and feedback!

Can Chlorine Cause Hair Loss?

A pool with chlorine

We know chlorine as a potent chemical primarily known for bleaching water. Our daily contact with it is more or less benign, but we must not neglect the fact of our regular exposure to it.

Chlorine is not only in the nearby pool—it’s in the water that comes from faucets.

Read more to learn what chlorine actually is and does, and how to work around its potentially corrosive effects on your hair possibly contributing to female hair loss.

What Is Chlorine and Why Is It in Our Tap Water

In nature, chlorine just comes from salt—it’s most common compound. It naturally forms in saltwater brines, turning into the inorganic compound we typically associate with summer. Also referred to as a halogen—(or a “salt-former”)—chlorine can be exceptionally reactive and even explode in direct sunlight when combined with hydrogen—yikes!

When manufactured on a large scale, (I’ll save you the gory details), there is some gas-bubbling, Manganese Dioxide, Hydrochloric Acid, and sulphuric acid involved in the process. And, you guessed it!

Water treatment plants don’t use naturally occurring chlorine in water sanitation. Why the heck do we douse our scalps and hair in it?

There are a number of reasons why people view chlorinated water as beneficial or even a modern breakthrough in public health. Chlorine treatment for water began in the late 1800’s. By 1904, it was standard procedure and protocol for cities to treat their water supply in this way before piping it into homes.

Water, although life-saving, can be hazardous as it effortlessly carries diseases. Chlorine destroys deadly bacteria and viruses that cause e. Coli and the norovirus. This technological advancement was revolutionary on a global scale.

Just like with everything, there are costs and benefits. One of the main reasons plants use chlorine is because of its price—it’s cheap. The production process is extraordinarily efficient in the eyes of manufacturers because there are chemical by-products such as sodium hydroxide that are useful to other chemical manufacturing efforts.

However, as scientific understanding and holistic health progresses, the world is now beginning to see the harmful effects of chlorine. And, for women who experience hair loss, chlorine might be dually an aggravating and disinfecting agent.

What Chlorine Does to Our Bodies

Abundant in nature in its chloride ion form, many animals—including humans—need chlorine. However, there is a limit to how much we can physically tolerate.

The previous description of its reactivity (remember how it explodes in the sun!) supposes chlorine in small quantities acts as an irritant. (In fact, as defined by the U.S. EPA, chlorine’s sole purpose is to kill living organisms—it’s termed as a pesticide). Think about the effects consecutive days at the pool have on your external body—itchy eyes, dry skin, and brittle hair.

The concern of chlorine and hair damage is nothing new to the haircare world. Many stylists and hair care experts advise using a product like a leave-in conditioner before jumping into a chlorinated pool.

Some even suggest taking a shower to fill hair pores avoiding a chlorine overload. Now, though, that we know chlorine is in tap water, it’s easy to conclude that the accumulation of small quantities can wreak havoc on hair health over time.

At Home and on the Scalp—Where Your Hair Health Begins

Your scalp is a very tender part of your body and the most arguably tender form of skin on your body. The skin on your head is rich in blood vessels and contains more hair follicles and more sebaceous glands than any other part.

Hair care experts warn of dry shampoo fanatics not washing their hair enough resulting in build-up—not good for hair growth. Our hair and scalp are the most wash-focused parts of our selves, though, resulting in dry, itchy scalps at least one time in our lives—REALLY not good for hair growth.

Your scalp needs to be loved, massaged and treated with respect. Many cultures stimulate the scalp with methods such as rosemary oil massages, regular supplementation with herbs known to treat hair loss, and avoiding products with toxic chemical ingredients like sulfates.

We need to make sure we are giving our scalp the utmost respect by not pouring toxic substances on it. One way to do this is to take out the chlorine of our water before it hits the head.

Reverse Osmosis: Say Goodbye Forever to Chlorine

A reverse osmosis water filter system for the home separates dissolved inorganic substances, (such as salt), from the water. Remember, chlorine is also an inorganic compound—hurray!

This home reverse osmosis water filter system is rated as one of the best reverse osmosis water filter system with a whopping 3,641 reviews and five full stars on Amazon. Under the $200 price point, it is certified “Gold” (highest ranking) by the Water Quality Association (WQA) and ensures high reliability and low maintenance for many years to come.

The Home Master TMAFC Artesian Full Contact Undersink Reverse Osmosis Water Filter System is more expensive ($269.85) but enables users to add minerals into their water—RO water filters really remove everything from water. (Remember, when using RO systems make sure you have a toothpaste with fluoride). Some reverse osmosis filters attach to one sink. You can purchase a whole house reverse osmosis water filter system connecting to every faucet.

Alkaline Water: Your Scalp Says YES, PLEASE

You’ve probably heard of the Alkaline Diet and its internal health benefits. We think that’s true of external bodily health too. Some skin care experts promote acid washing for people born with thick oily skin. Although beneficial for acne on the face, back, etc…never intentionally dry out your scalp with acid or astringent substances.

Alkaline water—the opposite of acidic water—is the best solution to rub into your crown. Water ionizers are great for alkalinizing water while filtering it.

Ionizers are more expensive than RO systems, because they not only remove impurities, but they also enhance your water.

You can easily reap the benefits of positively charged drinking and bath water. These devices are about the size of a toaster oven and attach to your water supply performing controlled low voltage electrolysis on tap water before you drink it or use it.

This Air Water Life Aqua Ionizer has rave reviews and is priced at $1,389.00. The 7 water settings allow you to adjust the alkalinity & add antioxidants—imagine those vitamins on your scalp!

Priced a little lower at $814.94, the Air Water Life Aqua Ionizer Deluxe 7.0 hosts all the benefits of the other ionizer except for the antioxidant infusion.

Heads up: Get Help With Installation

Before purchasing an RO or ionizer and installing it, consider hiring an expert to hook it up for you. These systems (especially RO systems) come with many nuts, bolts, hoses, and other little parts that are pretty overwhelming to look at once removed from the package.

You can also, get your water directly from the cold water line under your sink. For this, you will need to install what’s called a “Tee”. It’s called a Tee, because the piece of hardware is shaped a bit like the letter, T.

Clean Water is only part of the journey to reversing female hair loss

Remember, if your scalp needs a good exfoliation use a good scalp cleanser — shampoo is for your hair.

Just like shampoo, you put it on your head. Focus on getting deep into the surface with tiny, firm circular motions. You’ll stimulate the blood flow while gently lifting dead cells.

Follow this with a high-quality scalp treatment such as a plant-powered oil or extract fortifying your scalp with a protective layer.

And of course, use an outstanding DHT Blocking shampoo and take your supplements!

In the Defense of Your Scalp and Mane

hairfluence gorgeous hair

Chlorine damaged hair is old news to many of us as we think of swimming pools. Now that we understand the mounting effects of daily tap water on our hair follicles, shafts, and scalp, preventive actions are crucial.

Protect your hair from chlorine’s disintegrating consequences and your scalp from its moisture-stripping properties with a better of understanding of your choices for chlorine removal at home.

At the bare minimum, you can reap the benefits of non-toxic, clean water for you and your loved ones’ whole health.

Any experiences with whole house reverse osmosis water filter systems or alkaline water ionizers? Anyone already kicked the chlorine and wants to tell us about it? As always, your comments are golden and I look forward to the feedback.

Just Nutritive Grow New Hair Shampoo: Review

A woman smiling as she shampoos her hair

Grow New Hair Shampoo is a relatively new formulation a hair growth and hair supporting shampoo.

This product is ideal for both men and women suffering from hair loss. It has a powerful herbal smell that isn’t too floral or masculine.

But, what makes it worth your time and money?

The folks at Just Naturals claim that the presence of of rice and soy proteins make their shampoo unique, and the addition of Vitamin B5 helps to strengthen and thicken hair, which makes it look fuller and stronger.

The shampoo also includes hair-supporting plant-based extracts like Licorice, Sarsaparilla, and Papaya Fruit plus Basil and Thyme.

Carrot Seed, Pumpkin, and Argan oils also bring richness and vibrance to the hair. Yum, carrots 🙂

How exactly does Just Natural Hair Loss Shampoo do all that?

Let’s go in more details about the ingredients in Just Nutritive New Hair Shampoo, and the specific role each of these plays in fighting hair loss:

Basil Essential Oil   (Ocimum basilicum)

Basil essential oil improves blood circulation to the hair tissue, which promotes hair growth. The antioxidant properties of this herb are beneficial for the scalp and hair follicles.

Castor Seed Oil  ( Ricinus communis)

Regular usage of castor oil is purported to increase hair growth, reduce breakage, and moisturize hair and your scalp. Castor oil is high in ricinoleic acid which makes it a very effective nutritive anti-bacterial and anti-fungal agent.

This can help keep any fungus or bacteria from preventing or slowing hair growth. Castor oil is also high in Omega 9 fatty acids.

Sea Buckthorn Oil ( Hippophae rhamnoides )

The oil is extracted  from the seeds or the pulp of the fruit, both of which are extremely high in fatty acids. It is known as a super fruit for its wonderful healing properties.

The numerous benefits of sea buckthorn oil have caused it to be used as one of the basic ingredients of traditional folk medicine throughout time.

Rice Protein  (Orysa sativa)

Rice protein is a soluble vegetable protein, which has been extracted from rice bran. A nutritive plant derived protein that provides superior anti-oxidant properties and essential fatty acids. In 1694, rice arrived in South Carolina, probably originating from Madagascar. It is an excellent in adding nutritive shine and highlights to the hair.

This substantive protein also increases the ability of skin and hair to bind moisture. In the hair, this results in increased flexibility and tensile strength. On the skin, increased moisture retention results in a more hydrated and elastic surface. It is also an effective anti-irritant and leaves a smooth, dry feel on skin.

Together, all these ingredients work symbiotically to  target hair loss and promote new growth and healthier looking hair.

It’s worth noting that Grow New Hair Shampoo doesn’t contain any of the crap in our usual fare. No parabans, no artificial dyes or colors, no artificial fragrance, and most critically: no sulfates!

A $6 grocery store shampoo will say it contains some of the above ingredients, but the quantity is so small compared to the filler and chemical base, those quality ingredients so rarely offsets the damage done by the other crap.

When you pay more for a quality, plant-based and balanced shampoo like this one, it’s ALL goodness without the toxic and cheap base chemicals, and you can use far less per shampooing for the same cleansing and nourishing effect.

Grow New Hair Shampoo Reviews:

So what do people think of this shampoo? As with any hair loss product, this isn’t the perfect solution for every single person, and so there’s a mix of reviews. But, most are pretty darn positive.

On Amazon.com, this shampoo has an average rating of 4 out of 5 stars with over 50 reviews at the time of this blog entry. That means way more fans than not!

Let’s look in more detail at the pros and cons of Grow New Hair:

Pros:

  • Helps stop breakage
  • Hair stops falling out
  • More volume
  • New hair growth seen in as little as a month
  • Smells awesome
  • Makes hair softer
  • Lathers well

Cons:

  • Some experienced it leaving a film
  • Some plant extract ingredients may trigger allergies
  • Some experienced more static
  • Should be used with the matching conditioner for best results
  • Some saw results only after 6 months of use (so, technically this is both a pro and a con!)

Here’s one positive review from a woman that I found on their website, that I found pretty incredible and encouraging:

“I have been using the grow new hair shampoo and conditioner for a month…..maybe even a little longer. The difference is unbelievable. My stylist cannot believe the change in my hair. My hair started to fall out, I was panicking and went for a scalp analysis.

They wanted to charge me $1800 for treatment which is way too steep for my wallet. I saw this product on pinterest and read all the positive reviews and decided why not try it. I am glad I did. I can see the regrowth in my part and my hair is thicker too. I am not seeing the pile of hair in the drain either. I just ordered it for my daughter who has damaged her hair with a flat iron.

I highly recommend this product and can’t say thank you enough.”

Overall: Grow New Hair Shampoo can grow new hair!

Disclaimer: I’m a big fan of Just Nutritive products. They’re natural, well-researched, they’re superbly well-reviewed, and the one that I use (read my review here) smells AMAZING and has helped me regrow hair.

And….well, this may sound silly but I really like their website. It’s clean and well-designed, unlike lots of other online stores. As a blogger, I spend a lot of time online, so these things matter. 🙂

Any thoughts about Just Nutritive Products, or anything in the Grow New Hair product line? Or thoughts or feelings about anything else – life, the universe, or anything?  Feel free to leave a comment, and as always, I look forward to your feedback.

Hair Dryer for Hair Loss

A woman laughing as she uses a blow dryer

Blow dry….WHAAAAAAA?????

You’ve heard me say NEVER BLOW DRY YOUR HAIR. Generally, these are words to live by for those of us with fragile, friable, shedding, vulnerable hair.

However, we also live in a world where sometimes:

  • It’s too damn cold to go outside with wet hair;
  • We’ve gotta have styled hair for work/dates/life; and
  • We’ve gotta have extra awesome hair for the holidays.

So, what’s a girl to do?

I have the answer. Buy a GOOD hair dryer with temperature control and a diffuser.

I’ve had a hair dryer with a diffuser for as long as I can remember. What’s a diffuser? Simply put, diffusers are attachments that go on the end nozzle of a hair dryer, and this lets the dryer disperse its heat over a wider area.

What does dispersed heat mean? Less intense focus of the heat at a smaller area of follicles, and broader air distribution. This means you get uniformly dry hair, not fried dried split frizz.

What’s a girl NOT to do?

DEFINITELY AVOID drying your hair in the typical salon fashion. You know what I’m talking about…those blow outs where the stylist brushes it super aggressively, strand by freaking strand, in order to get that glossy and perfectly straight look.

It might look good that day, but the cost is FAR too heavy to justify.

Why? Because blow drying while brushing or combing your hair while it’s wet is still BAD NEWS. Our hair is even MORE vulnerable when it’s wet and you should ALWAYS avoid brushing or combing it during this time, if you have concerns about hair loss or shedding.

If you doubt what I’m saying, I challenge you to look closely at your ends next time you get a blow out. You’ll see a difference. Or,  grab all of your hair like you’re pulling it into a ponytail, and feel the volume: it will feel WAY skinnier than normal. This is because the hair has been stripped of its natural oil as well as just plain stripped of HAIR!

Why use a hair dryer with a diffuser?

If I’m blow drying my hair, not only don’t I want my poor scalp and follicles to get too hot and fry, I also want to preserve some of my natural wave and curl so the final product looks more voluminous.

For those of us with thinning hair, having waves or curls can help give the illusion that we have MORE hair than we do.

Why use ionic hair dryers?

In addition to the diffuser, this particular hair dryer by John has a metric ton of built-in features to protect your hair while in action:

  • 2200-Watt Motor – The powerful motor produces strong, consistent airflow to dry even thick, wavy hair in no time! Salon Look Everyday!
  • Advanced Technology – We’ve packed a bunch of useful technology into this hair dryer! Negative ions reduce frizz, the ceramic-coated grill produces infrared heat for fast drying, and tourmaline technology protects the hair cuticle from over-heating
  • Micro-Conditioners – Get up to 5x more protection compared to other regular dryers. The grill is infused with micro-conditioners that release into the dryer¡¯s airflow and get transferred into your hair to help prevent damage and maximize shine
  • 3 Heat Settings + 2 Speed Settings – Find the right temperature and airflow for your hair with 3 heat and 2 speed settings. Start with high heat to remove excess moisture, then switch to low heat and speed when you¡¯re ready to style and perfect your look. Voltage: 120 Volts. Cool Shot – Lock in your style with the cool shot button that provides a blast of cold air to hold your look all day long.
  • Attachments – The narrow air concentrator is ideal for precision styling on straight, smooth hair and the wider for fast drying. (To gain volume and curls, clip on the air diffuser and move it quickly around your head)

Best of all, the JOHN 2200Watt Fast Drying Ceramic Ionic Tourmaline 5800 Professional Hair Dryer with Diffuser features a 5 Year Warranty. So, if it breaks or gets wonky, you can send it back and get the darn thing fixed or replaced, no worries.

I’m thrilled that the internet exists and gives us an alternative to waiting in those frigid lines and risking death by trampling on Black Friday. Like everyone else, I love getting something for nothing or nearly nothing, which is why…

Time is of the essence, ladies

At this moment, this fancypants ionic hairdryer with a diffuser is only $47.99 on Amazon.com, on sale from its usual price of $169.

That’s partly why I wanted to pass on the news and encourage you all to go snag one.

That, and it’s getting super freaking cold where I live (in the mountains of Arizona). I’ve been blow drying my hair sometimes rather than letting it air dry, and, so I don’t end up reversing all the time and expense of regrowing my hair, I’m doing it with a good dryer and a diffuser. Ya’ll should do the same!

Thoughts on drying your hair? Horror stories or success stories? I’m listening…leave a comment!

Phytoworx Organic Hair Loss Shampoo: Review

A smiling woman holding a bottle of shampoo

What is Phytoworx Hair Recovery?

Phytoworx Organic Hair Loss Hair Recovery Shampoo is a unique, one-of-a-kind product that includes plant stem cells as an active ingredient.

These plant stem cells come from an apple (Malus Domestica) that originates from Switzerland.

The folks at Phytoworx claim that these stem cells work wonders for your hair, delaying aging in the follicles and delaying cell deterioration.

This shampoo has been shown to improve the maintenance of the stem cells characteristics of epidermal cells

Other Phytoworx Shampoo Ingredients:

In addition to the Stem Cells, Phytoworx contains a number of other organic ingredients.

Aloe Vera Juice

Aloe Vera has many established health benefits, and these extend to our hair and scalp. Aloe Vera has an established ability to protect the scalp and new stimulate growth.

Ginger Root Extract

Ginger root contains magnesium, potassium, phosphorous, and vitamins that nourish hair follicles, making them strong and preventing hair loss. Ginger also acts as a natural conditioner.

Green Tea Extract

Researchers from Japan’s Saitama Cancer Center Institute proved that the Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) –implicated in arthritic diseases and cancer – is also involved in causing hair loss.

The paper further showed that green tea extract can suppress the production of TNF-alpha, which may make it possible to ‘cure’ baldness.

Licorice Extract

Studies have shown that licorice is effective at reducing inflammation, clearing allergic reactions, and reducing damage from chemical exposure.

This could mean it’s beneficial in reversing hair loss caused by chemical damage, dye, and stress on the hair.

Cucumber Fruit Extract

Cucumbers contains vitamins A, C, and the nutrient silica, which all promote hair growth. Cucumber repairs and strengthens damaged and thinning hair, especially when combined with aloe or egg.

Cucumber is soothing because of its alkaline minerals, such as sodium, potassium and magnesium; and raw cucumber juice offers benefits when applied directly to the scalp and hair.

Pomegranate

Drinking pomegranate juice helps to strengthen hair follicles. Pomegranate seed oil contains punicic acid which makes hair strong, thick, and healthy. Pomegranate seed oil also improves circulation to the scalp, which improves hair growth and health.

There are other ingredients including several natural essential oils known to promote hair growth.

Allergies? Here’s my best tip: Always read your labels!

SLS hair lossWhat ISN’T in Phytoworks Shampoo?

Sulfates. Yup. This is another great sulfate-free offering, and it’s exciting to see more shampoo and hair loss products catching onto the reality that sulfates are just bad and don’t belong on our freaking skin and hair.

It’s interesting that Phytoworx doesn’t contain Saw Palmetto or other prominent DHT blockers.

The ingredients tell the story that Phytoworx takes more of a nourishing approach than a blocking approach.

This puts Phytoworx shampoo up in strong contrast to a hair loss product like Ultrax Hair Surge, which aggressively blocks DHT (the hormone responsible for hair loss in most of us, men and women both).

There are definitely strong arguments to be made for either approach, and if the end result is not losing clumps of hair in the shower for both, then we can all be happy campers!

Benefits of using Organic Shampoo Products:

Phytoworx Hair Recovery Shampoo is made from organic ingredients. What does this mean for you?

It means fewer harsh chemicals, more ingredients containing the goodness of Mother Nature, rather than something mixed up by greedy companies looking to make a quick buck by slapping their name on a product that makes hair fall out more!

If you’re trying to live a clean, green life, included in this should be a search for non-toxic, all natural shampoo options. They’re easier and easier to find these days.

If you’ve only used cheap shampoo or conditioner and your hair or scalp needs reviving, organic alternatives can help. The stuff in the grocery store isn’t much better than washing your head with dishsoap, I’m afraid!

In sum, when you buy organic, it’s more likely that you’ll be buying purity, and more likely you’ll be supporting an ethical company.

Most non-organic shampoo contain harsh cleansing agents, and almost all of them contain sulfates, which are known to be drying. Why not give your scalp a gentler alternative?  You have nothing to lose but more hair.

Phytoworx Shampoo Reviews: Yay or Nay?

woman thumbs upWith a grand total of nearly 1,500 reviews on Amazon.com at the time of this blog post, Phytoworx has earned an average of 4.5 stars out of five.

This means the product has overwhelmingly positive reviews. Let’s look at some of the specific reasons why people love or hate this product:

The Yays:

  • Lots of positive results reported for ethnic hair
  • Many users see fast results
  • Does not dry out the scalp
  • Made hair thicker
  • Made hair stronger
  • Removes itching and dandruff

The Nays:

  • Needs to be used daily or nearly daily for best results – not ideal for those who prefer to shampoo infrequently
  • Due to lack of sulfates, does not lather, which might be weird for those used to suds
  • Some allergic reactions to plant-based ingredients – always read the label first!
  • Some reported greasy feeling after shampooing
  • Expensive

Overall: Encouraging – Try Phytoworx hair loss shampoo!

skinI’m always excited to see sulfate-free shampoos, and especially excited to see these products made in the USA. I want to support companies who are brave enough to take these steps.

Does the end result cost more? Sure. But the peace of mind resulting from not being poisoned by unregulated products made with child labor is a good exchange.

Given all of this, is Phytoworx worth the cost? If user reviews are any indication, yes.

I’m especially intrigued by the presence of plant stem cells, because I’ve never heard of that kind of technology being used to heal humans. So … sign me up! Given the confident and encouraging tone of all these positive reviews, I’ll give this one a whirl and report back to ya’ll with an updated review.

In the meantime…

Any thoughts or experiences with Phytoworx organic shampoo, or anything else? I always love your comments and feedback – tell me anything!

Yours,

Penelope

DHT Blocking Hair Loss Shampoo by Hair Restoration Laboratories: Review

A rear view of a woman shampooing her hair in the shower

Whew! My review of this DHT blocking shampoo is way overdue, but I’ve actually used this one, so it’s important to tell the world all about it.

DHT Blocking Hair Loss Shampoo, by Hair Restoration Laboratories, is exactly what it sounds like. It’s completely loaded with herbal DHT blockers.

According to their website, Hair Restoration Laboratories has been around for over 10 years, and has created a shampoo based on on the latest science about that pesky testosterone byproduct, DHT.

DHT is main culprit behind hair loss for both men and women. As a major bonus, this shampoo is also SULFATE-FREE and PARABEN-FREE.

Ingredients that block DHT:

This shampoo contains MANY DHT blockers worth noting:

Salvia Miltiorrhiza Root Extract

Studies establish that this extract improves blood circulation to the hair follicle.

Ligusticum Chuanxiong Root Extract

Studies establish that this extract has a beneficial effect on hair, reduces hair loss and helps makes hair silky, glossy and manageable.

Astragalus Membranaceus Root Extract

Known for its adaptogen properties, this extract is rich in polysaccharides, which are nutrients critical to hair follicle health.

Camellia Japonica Seed Oil

In research studies, this extract has demonstrated potent antioxidant properties with the ability to inhibit the production of DHT.

Studies establish soy isoflavones promote hair growth by increasing the dermal levels of insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1).

Tocopherol

Also known as Vitamin E, this ingredient is an antioxidant and intensive hair conditioning vitamin.

Studies established that sativa increased hair growth and was effective in treating telogen effluvium, a specific hair loss condition and pattern primarily experienced by women.

Hibiscus Rosa-sinensis Extract

Studies of this leaf extract established that it promoted more hair follicles in the anagen (growth) phase.

β-sitosterol

There are several reasons that may explain why phytosterols can be helpful in the treatment of hair loss. One of their main characteristics is their anti-inflammatory properties. Inflammation is often one of the characteristics that can contribute to hair loss and several studies have established that phytosterols have great anti-inflammatory purposes.

Citrus Medica Limonum Oil

A fragrant natural oil that is rich in Vitamin C and is a powerful antioxidant that helps protect the scalp and hair from free radical damage.

Polygonum Multiflorum Root Extract

Studies establish that this extract is a highly effective hair growth promoter

Rosemarinus Officinalis Leaf Oil

Certain studies have established that rosemary oil can be just as effective as minoxidil and stimulate hair growth.

What Users Say:

People are pleased with the value they get from the 16 oz bottle, especially after a first purchase ringing in at under $15. After a month or two of use, people have observed an improvement in growth around the hairline, and a general thickening of the individual hairs.

My Experience:

This shampoo absolutely has a “gender-neutral” smell – it definitely is ok to use for both men and women.

Often men are worried about these unisex shampoos being too “flowery” and likewise women are worried about them being too Old Spice or Axe Body Spray like – this is really none of the above.

It KINDA reminds me of the smell of the shampoo, Prell, if anyone here is old enough to remember it!

DHT Blocking Hair Loss Shampoo has a good lather and thickness (some hair loss shampoos are obscenely thick- too thick to be workable), and it doesn’t burn or tingle when leaving it on my scalp for the recommended 3-5 minutes.

I always appreciate a pump bottle design – in the shower the last thing I want to do is more work – lifting a bottle, squeezing sh*t out, putting the bottle back again. The pump design appeals to the worse angels of my nature 🙂

Because I used this shampoo in conjunction with the Grow New Hair Faster by Just Naturals, it’s hard to isolate the effects of that shampoo away from the other treatment I was using. But I will say that when I used both together, I noticed an improvement in my thinning hairline and an increase in baby hair around my face.

And, perhaps most importantly, through my hair loss treatment journey and use of DHT blockers, I’ve come to accept that DHT is the big nasty culprit behind most hair loss, including behind mine.

Overall: Great Choice For People on a Budget

This is an excellent hair loss treatment choice for people on a tight budget. Some of these hair loss shampoos run over fifty bucks for a much smaller bottle, and that can be SOOOO off-putting for people on a budget that they don’t pursue any treatment at all.

In my view, it’s much better to use SOMETHING with DHT blockers than nothing at all, and that’s why I recommend this DHT Blocking shampoo, especially for people watching their pennies who would never be able to afford these super expensive mainstream alternatives.

More importantly, you get a huge bottle for the price. Most shampoo bottles run in the 8-10 ounce range, not 16 full ounces. 16 ounces for under $15 is a win in hair loss treatment land.

Depending on the length of your hair, this bottle of shampoo will last two to four months, giving you even more value. Speaking for myself, using it exclusively on my very long hair, it lasted almost two months.

IDEALLY: you can combine this treatment with another one for best results. For example, if you already rake a powerful hair-loss supplement, this can be the hair loss shampoo treatment you use to cover your bases.

Comprehensively treat your hair loss problem both inside and outside – you’ve gotta!
